The Nevada Public Library has extensive collection of genealogical materials available for in-library use.

  • A large collection of local obituaries in the Obituary File
  • Books on the history of Nevada, Story County, and Iowa
  • Microfilm
    • The Nevada (Evening) Journal newspapers back to April 1895 
      • More recent copies that haven't yet been transferred to microfilm are available in print
    • The Nevada Representative from May 1870 to June 1922 and the Story County Watchman from March 1877 to October 1906.
    • The censuses for Story County
    • The state censuses are 1856, 1885, 1895, 1905, 1915, and 1925
    • The Federal censuses from 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920
  • Plat maps and directories for Nevada and Story County
  • Some family histories and church histories as well as histories of other towns in Story County
