Welcome to the Nevada Public Library e-newsletter for January.
Happy New Year!
The Winter/Spring session of story times will begin the first week of February and continue until April 25th.
Sessions will include:
Babes in Arms. This program is designed for expectant parents, and for parents with infants or pre-walkers. Parents are a baby’s first and most important teacher. In this pre-literacy program, parents will playfully interact with their infants and will learn rhymes, finger plays, songs and lullabies. Handouts are provided. Wednesdays at 11:00 am.
Toddlers (1 and 2 year olds). This program has lots of movement, songs, rhymes and finger plays, all of which help a child prepare to become a strong reader. Thursdays at 11:00 am.
Preschoolers (3 years and up). This program includes lots of stories, songs, and activities that will reinforce concept learning necessary for reading. Thursdays at 10:00 am or Fridays at 10:30 am.
After School (Kindergarten through 5th grade). This program will feature a light snack, read-alouds and a variety of activities including kid science, movement, board games, puppet play and crafts. Tuesdays 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Please register for story times at the Main Desk or by calling 515-382-2628. Any time school is cancelled or dismissed early due to bad weather, after school story times will also be cancelled.
Events this month include:
A new Knitting club will meet on Monday, January 25th at 6:30pm in the library meeting room. The group will include all ages and experience levels. Get help with a project, learn a new technique or help someone else with a project. Call the library at 515-382-2628 if you are interested.
The Reading Group will meet on Thursday, January 28th at 1:30 pm to discuss the book, ‘The Shack’ by William P. Young. Ask at the Main Desk for a copy of the book. Everyone is welcome to attend this group.
It’s January and that means that tax season is here!
The Nevada Public Library has tax forms available. If we don’t have a paper copy of the form you need, we can help you check for it online at http://www.irs.gov and http://www.iowa.gov/tax/forms/individual.html . We are unfortunately unable to give tax advice.
The Friends Book Sale will be held on Saturday, January 30th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the library basement. Escape cabin fever with lots of books to choose from, especially paperbacks, cook books, and videocassettes.
The Friends of the Library meet on Tuesday, January 12th, at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Our Friends group holds four book sales a year. The Friends provide the coffee and supplies for the Coffee Corner in the magazine room. The Summer Reading Program prizes and programs benefit from the money raised by the Friends. Ask at the Main Desk for more information on joining the Friends.
Happy New Year and, as always, happy reading….
