Welcome to the Nevada Public Library e-newsletter for April.
April is always a fun and busy month here at the library. National Library Week is April 12th - 18th and we shall be celebrating with music again this year. One of the highlights of the Spring is our series of Musical Lunch Breaks. From Monday, April 13th through Friday, April 17th, students from the Nevada Middle and High Schools will come to perform music each day at noon. Please come, bring your lunch and hear some live music. We also invite classes from the elementary school to come and eat lunch and enjoy this great opportunity. You are welcome to join your elementary student for lunch.
If you think you may have a library fine, or have an overdue book that you keep meaning to return, but just haven’t quite got around to it, don’t worry, because during National Library Week, we will again have a fine amnesty:
· If you have an overdue book and bring it in during that week with a non-perishable food item for the Nevada Community Cupboard, we will waive the fine.
· If you pay old fines on your account from books returned previously, we will cut your fine in half if you bring in a non-perishable food item.
· We will be collecting for the Community Cupboard all month, so you may bring in items to donate at any time, (but fines will only be waived or discounted during National Library Week).
· Last year we collected over 400 items for the Community Cupboard and we’re hoping to be just as successful this year.
Toddler Fest is sponsored by the public libraries in Story County. This year it is being hosted in Story City at the Bertha Bartlett Public Library, 503 Broad Street, on Saturday, April 4th from 10 am to 12 pm. The theme is “Paint a Rainbow of Reading”. Come and join in all the fun activities aimed at preschool age children. For more information, talk to Mary Gregory, Children’s Librarian. Each child will receive a free book and a free pass to Story City’s Antique Carousel.
The Friends of the Library hosts a two day open house and book sale on Friday, April 24th from 10 am to 6pm, and Saturday, April 25th from 10 am to 3 pm. Find out how the Friends of the Nevada Public Library supports so many different library activities, services and events, and what you can do to help. There will be refreshments available at the open house both days.
